Project Profile

Completed

Pre-Active Parkinson’s Disease (PD)

A completed physical activity behavior change coaching study for individuals with early-stage Parkinson’s disease.

Overview

Pre-Active Parkinson’s Disease (PD) focused on individuals in the early stages of Parkinson’s disease, when intervention may help establish health-supporting routines before functional limitations become more pronounced. The study examined a behavior change approach to increasing physical activity participation through structured coaching and individualized goal development.

Study Description

This completed feasibility study investigated whether a coaching-based physical activity intervention could be delivered effectively to individuals with early-stage Parkinson’s disease. The research purpose was to evaluate the practicality and acceptability of a structured behavior change model while generating preliminary insight into its potential to support sustained engagement in physical activity.

Program Structure

  • Structured coaching sessions focused on physical activity behavior change and routine formation
  • Individualized goal setting, barrier identification, and follow-up to support ongoing engagement
  • Intervention components designed to align with the needs and capacities of individuals with early-stage Parkinson’s disease
